I found this test (March 2008) of firewalls on the internet.

Hope some of you find it useful.

Well Whatwhere you need to talk to Jafo. He has a great sorry of what Norton can do to your computer.

Kona.....I've been running Norton on my PC for the past 5 years....never got a virus....in fact I never get anything. My pc runs great even unless I manage to screw something up myself. Ones persons bad experience with something doesn't make it bad. If that were the case I'd just trash my pc since just about everything I've ever put on here had a problem at one time or another.

Interesting results...shall look at Comodo...see how it goes...

whatwhere ... I had NAV for years...until one day it disabled the MS BIT service....which actually necessitated the re-install of XP SP2, as every single lesser solution failed.

The BIT service is required by Windows Update.  Without it you would have to seek out the updates manually, which is only fun for the true geek out there.

Bitdefender is a darn sight less of a pain than Norton EVER was.....

Web....at the time there was quite a user-base seeking solutions to the BIT service fuckup.  It very definitely wasn't 'one person's bad experience'...

If it had been I'd say "Jafo...you're a twit...get it right"...and have kept using it....since I had ONLY JUST renewed the sub two weeks earlier.

Instead I junked 50 weeks of crap program and moved on....

Yes but in this case we have more than one person that had bad experiences with Norton.

Jafo...Honestly....I really don't know what to say...and I can't recommend any other software...not that I don't want to or anything...every application I've ever looked at had good and bad reviews...all I can say is that I myself have never had a problem with Norton. But I can assure that if or when I do I will trash it just as fast as you did. Maybe I'm lucky in that it doesn't slow down my pc or hasn't screwed up...who knows. But I can certainly understand why you did what you did....I would have too.

Guess it depends on which test site your using. I used one that was posted here somewhere and it passed with flying colors. How about that!?

All I can say is...if Norton doesn't work for you trash it...I would too. But thats not the case...yet.

Web...yes, my bet is you're the lucky one...and there'll be many more, too.

I can't help feeling, however you may just wake up one day....and there's your computer...a smoking ruin....and those wise words 'remove Norton' will be ringing faintly in your ears....

That could very well happen one day...you never know with these things.

Well don't say we didn't warn you then. I can't see why you would pay for something that everyone else says is junk.

Uh....Because I've yet to have a problem with it in 5 years? If or when I do...trust me...it'll be gone in a flash. If I listened to everyone that said certain software was junk I'd have to uninstall everything on my pc.

And I guess just like everyone that tells you IE is junk....but you still swear by it.
